Our Story

Dairyland Sports is dedicated to empowering adaptive athletes across Wisconsin and the Midwest by advocating for inclusion, providing educational resources, and offering comprehensive support for athletic development and opportunities.

Advocate

We strive to advocate for the recognition and inclusion of all adaptive athletes in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. We work at the local, national, and international level to promote and support adaptive athletes in the pursuit of their individual fitness and athletic goals.

Educate

We work to provide educational opportunities to adaptive athletes, families, health professionals, and community members to highlight the value of adaptive sports in the health and well-being of individuals with diverse abilities.

Support

We aim to be your “one-stop-shop” for resources and access to adaptive sports opportunities in Wisconsin. We support local and national adaptive sports clubs, teams, and events to provide adaptive athletes with the best opportunities to learn, train, and compete.

Jacob grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology, and Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Jacob is the Co-Founder & Executive Director of Dairyland Sports, owner of Adapt Physical Therapy & Fitness, and business entrepreneur with JRG Ventures. Jacob believes strongly in advocating and supporting people with disabilities in the community setting through enhancing opportunity & access to sport, fitness, wellness, & recreational services. Jacob cherishes his role as husband and father most of all, and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors hiking, biking, and soaking up the sun in the cherished summer months in Wisconsin with his family.

Deb Jenks

Deb has been a part of the Dairyland Sports family since the inaugural Dairyland Games in 2016. She works closely with local, regional and national groups to help with the planning of the annual Dairyland Games as well as to promote Dairyland Sports’ mission in making sport, fitness, & recreation accessible to all abilities. Deb enjoys promoting para sports in the community and helps create impactful, inclusive experiences for adaptive athletes. With a strong passion for advancing para sports, she is dedicated to increasing awareness and opportunities for athletes of all abilities. Deb brings with her 30 years of experience in athletics and sports medicine/rehabilitation, both personally and professionally. Deb currently works as a Licensed Athletic Trainer for SSM Health in Madison, WI.

Beyond her professional role, Deb is a proud mom and grandma who enjoys designing and remodeling homes and running a Wisconsin northwoods resort. Deb resides in the Madison area with her husband and family, and enjoys time spent outdoors and traveling.

Stephanie Mueller

Stephanie came to Dairyland Sports through long-time friends active in the adaptive sports community. She holds an MBA from the University St. Thomas, but her real skill is knowing more about QuickBooks than she cares to admit. Stephanie has lent her expertise to several nonprofits in the Twin Cities and Madison, Wisconsin areas – usually as board treasurer, always as advocate for the people served by the organizations.

She and her husband, Brad, founded an independent life insurance agency in 2020, though is now retired from the life insurance industry. When not volunteering, she can usually be found waiting for her three adult children to reply to her texts and performing improv comedy in the Madison area.

Secretary

Kali Rickey

Kali grew up in the Madison area and earned a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. After graduating, she spent six years in Summit County, Colorado, where she worked extensively with individuals who have disabilities across a variety of settings.

During that time, Kali served as a Wilderness Course Director with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, where she planned and led inclusive outdoor experiences for individuals who have diverse abilities. In this role, she incorporated adaptive equipment into programming and therapeutic interventions, including ropes courses, rock climbing, rafting, canoeing, cycling, and skiing.

Kali has also worked as a Registered Behavior Technician, supporting children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, and as a Special Education Teacher for students who have significant support needs. She recently returned to the Madison area and is currently an elementary Special Education Teacher in Waunakee.

Kali is excited to serve as Secretary for Dairyland Sports and to continue supporting the adaptive sports community. She is deeply passionate about empowering individuals of all abilities and fostering inclusive environments across all settings.

Austin Schyvinck

Austin loves to spend time with his wife, daughter, and son. In addition to his responsibilities as Director of Programming for Dairyland Sports, Austin owns and operates Capable Adaptive Fitness LLC which provides in-home personal training and exercise solutions for individuals with disabilities. A graduate of UW Madison, Austin credits his faith, his mom, and the UW Adapted Fitness Program for his passion to create and provide exercise and sport opportunities for all people.

Mary Beaty

Mary Beaty is a Certified Federal Grant Management Specialist with extensive experience in financial administration within human services organizations. She is deeply committed to advancing equity and inclusion, with a strong focus on creating opportunities for all. Mary has supported these efforts through her involvement with United Way (NE), Head Start, Special Olympics, and volunteer work at GiGi’s Playhouse.

Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Mary enjoys creative pursuits such as watercolor painting, crocheting, and quilting, and values spending time outdoors on walks with her Bernedoodle.

Jenna Peterson

Jenna has been involved with Dairyland Sports since 2021, serving primarily as the Director of Education and Volunteer Coordinator. Jenna graduated from UW–Madison with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2019 and went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2022. She enjoys her work as a Physical Therapist in the Milwaukee area, specializing in treating individuals with neurological conditions.

In addition to her clinical work, Jenna is a National Medical Classifier for para swimming, which aligns with her values and goals to support opportunities for access to competition for adaptive athletes. Most importantly, she remains passionate about making sure everyone, regardless of ability or experience, has the chance to be active and experience the benefits of sport.

Mykenzie is currently a Physical Education teacher in the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from UW La Crosse in May of 2022 and her Master's degree in Adapted Physical Education from Texas Woman’s University in August of 2023. Her professional journey encompasses diverse experiences, including motor development programs, para sport events in Texas and Wisconsin and active involvement in Special Olympics. Mykenzie is committed to fostering physical well-being and inclusivity in athletics, she is passionate about shaping healthy futures for all athletes and students that she crosses paths with.

An enthusiastic and driven advocate for inclusive athletics, Mykenzie serves as the Programming Assistant for Dairyland Sports, joining the team in 2023. She additionally remains involved in coaching and supporting a variety of adaptive sports programs and camps, including Miracle League, Camp Abilities, and Special Olympics.

In addition to programming support, Mykenzie plays a key role in managing Dairyland Sports’ social media presence, helping share the impact and stories of the community. Always eager to grow, Mykenzie continuously seeks to learn from the experiences adaptive sports provide, both on and off the field.

Jeffrey Mahlum

Jeffrey Mahlum is a psychiatrist at the Madison VA Hospital, where he is dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of veterans. He is a strong advocate for the transformative impact of adaptive sports, believing they play a vital role in enhancing quality of life and fostering community.

Jeffrey has a deep passion for tennis, enjoying the sport both on and off the court—whether playing, watching, or attending adaptive tennis tournaments. Outside of his professional and athletic interests, he values spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants, and experiencing movies on the big screen.

Brandon Holstein has been involved with Dairyland Sports since its inception, helping attract the Junior Nationals adaptive sports event to Madison with his work as the Senior Sports Account Manager at the Madison Area Sports Commission. Brandon Is focused on building powerful partnerships, creating engaging experiences, and driving meaningful results. He brings a practical, relationship-first approach to his work, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, creativity, and follow-through. Whether working with sponsors, organizations, or community partners, Brandon is passionate about turning ideas into outcomes that make a lasting impact. Brandon believes sports has the power to change lives and is the thing that drives him to keep pushing and building for more adaptive sports opportunities and programming. Brandon lives in Windsor, Wisconsin with his wife, two kids and dog named Henley.
Jay Coleman headshot
Board Member

Jay Coleman

Jay Coleman is a wheelchair athlete specializing in track and basketball, recognized for both athletic excellence and trailblazing impact. As the first adaptive athlete at their high school, they helped pave the way for greater inclusion in school sports while earning two Wisconsin state championship titles in track.

Beyond competition, Jay is a dedicated disability advocate with a particular focus on conditions that have historically been excluded from para sports. Their work centers on expanding access, visibility, and equity within adaptive athletics.

Currently a student at Carleton College, they are pursuing a prospective double major in biology and studio art, blending scientific curiosity with creative expression. Outside the classroom and competition, they enjoy spending time with their dog and training for their next wheelchair race.
